Nant Conwy 38 v 0 Y Bala

A fantastic start, a brilliant finish and a lot of hard graft in between would sum up this game.

With the wind at their backs, Nant got off to a great start with Rhydian Jones gathering a Bala clearance kick just inside the opposition half. Skipping past both sets of forwards he went clean through to touch down under the posts. Caron Davies added the conversion. All this with barely 2 minutes played.

Making use of the wind, Davies added two penalties before Jones got his and Nant's second try on 26 minutes. From a scrum on Nant's right the ball was moved quickly along the threequarters for the winger to outpace the defence and go over in the corner. Though the conversion was missed Davies added a futher penalty to make it 21 - 0 to the home side, when a Bala forward was given a yellow card for preventing a tap penalty.

The last few minutes of the half saw Bala applying all the pressure. But despite being awarded scrum after scrum near Nant's line they were unable to breach the defence.

The second half saw Bala, playing with the wind, pinning Nant back for lengthy periods, but, like the end of the first half, they were unable to make the break through.

Bala were dominating in terms of territory and possession. But, as hard as they tried they could not breach Nant's defence. When they gained possession Nant would usually run with the ball as the wind was making kicking difficult. Unfortunately, it made passing difficult too.

Nant did take advantage of the occasional visit to the opposition half and Davies increased their lead with his fourth penalty after 60 minutes.

Bala came back again and after 65 minutes the referee seemed to have had enough of the high penalty count. This resulted in a sin binning for Nant flanker, Brychan Dafydd.

With ten minutes left there was then a lengthy break for an injury to second row Siencyn Metcalfe.

Though Bala continued to press against Nant's 14 men, neither side looked like changing the score line. With 5 minutes left, and back up to full strength, it looked like Nant would have to settle for missing out on a bonus point. They had other ideas. A break down the right resulted in a penalty. From the subsequent line out the ball was tossed back to Cai Jones who drove forward from 8 metres to score. Cain Jones added the conversion.

A great effort but it seemed to be too little too late with only a minute left. However, from the kick off Nant again attacked down the right and a break by Ifan Williams saw the ball passed inside to Cain Jones who sprinted in from 25 metres out. The conversion by Carwyn Davies was the final play of the match.

A great effort to keep a clean sheet and never giving on up getting the bonus point.
